Buying guide

How to Choose Your Level 2 EV Charger

1. Check your EV's connector

Almost every non-Tesla EV sold in the U.S. through 2024 uses a J1772 port. From 2025+, Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian and others are switching to NACS (Tesla's connector). If your car has a J1772 port — choose a J1772 charger (or use a J1772-to-Tesla adapter for Tesla). If your car has a NACS port — choose a NACS charger for the cleanest fit.

2. Pick your install type — plug-in or hardwired

Plug-in (NEMA 14-50): Up to 40A / 9.6 kW. You install a NEMA 14-50 outlet (electrician, ~$300–$800 install), then plug in the charger yourself. Move with you when you relocate. Hardwired: Up to 48A / 11.5 kW. Wired directly into a 60A circuit. ~20% faster charging, cleaner look, no outlet to fail. Both options are UL/ETL safe and code-compliant when installed by a licensed electrician.

3. Match amperage to your circuit

EVIQO chargers respect the 80% rule built into U.S. electrical code: a 50A breaker supports 40A continuous draw; a 60A breaker supports 48A. If your panel can't handle a 60A circuit, 40A plug-in is the right choice — and it'll still fully charge most EVs overnight. All EVIQO chargers ship with an adjustable dial switch and app slider so you can dial it down to match a 30A or 40A breaker if needed.

4. Indoor or outdoor mount?

Every EVIQO charger is rated IP66 / NEMA 4 — protected against dust, rain, snow, and direct hose spray. Operating temperature -22°F to 122°F (-30°C to 50°C). Garage, exterior wall, carport — all work. Just keep the holster within cable reach of the EV's charge port.

5. Smart features that pay for themselves

The EVIQO app lets you set up to 3 recurring schedules to charge during off-peak utility hours — in markets like California or New York, this can cut your charging cost by 40–60%. Real-time monitoring shows kWh, dollars, and session history. WiFi firmware updates keep your charger current. iOS & Android.

FAQ

Level 2 EV Chargers — FAQ

What is a Level 2 EV charger?

A Level 2 charger uses 208–240V power (the same voltage as your dryer or oven) to deliver 7–11.5 kW to your EV. That's 5–9× faster than the Level 1 (120V) cordset that came with your car. Level 2 is the standard for home and workplace charging.

How many miles per hour will it add?

It depends on your car. As a rule of thumb: a 40A charger (9.6 kW) adds ~30–37 miles per hour, a 48A charger (11.5 kW) adds ~37–44 miles per hour. Cold weather and very large batteries (trucks/SUVs) reduce that figure.

Will it work with my car?

EVIQO Level 2 chargers come in two connectors — J1772 (for most non-Tesla EVs sold in the U.S. through 2024) and NACS (for Tesla and 2025+ Ford, GM, Hyundai, Kia, Rivian EVs). Check your car's charge port and pick the matching connector. Tesla owners can also use a J1772 charger with a J1772-to-Tesla adapter (sold separately).

Is it safe outdoors?

Yes. Every EVIQO charger is rated IP66 / NEMA 4 — protected against dust, heavy rain, snow, and direct water spray. Tested for -22°F to 122°F operation. Mount it on a garage wall, exterior wall, or carport without additional weatherproofing.

Do I need a special breaker or GFCI?

No external GFCI breaker is required — EVIQO chargers include integrated ground-fault protection (RCD). For plug-in (40A): use a 50A breaker. For hardwired (48A): use a 60A breaker. Always follow local code and use a licensed electrician for outlet or circuit installation.

Plug-in or hardwired — what's the difference?

Plug-in uses a NEMA 14-50 outlet and gives you up to 40A / 9.6 kW. You can unplug and move it. Hardwired is permanently wired to a 60A circuit and gives you up to 48A / 11.5 kW — about 20% faster charging. Both are safe, both are code-compliant. Plug-in suits renters and movers; hardwired suits homeowners who want maximum speed and a cleaner install.

Can multiple cars share one EVIQO charger?

Yes. There's no registration or pairing — any EV with a compatible connector (J1772 or NACS, matching your charger) can use it. The charger handles one car at a time. You can also share access with household members via the EVIQO app.

What's in the box?

EVIQO Level 2 charger, holster, mounting templates (×2), wall brackets (×2), full mounting kit (expansion screws, anti-theft screws, lag screws with gaskets, spare screws), T25 anti-theft Allen wrench, and installation guide.

Is the EVIQO charger UL or ETL rated?

EVIQO chargers are ETL Listed (which means tested to UL safety standards — fully accepted under the National Electrical Code), FCC certified, and Energy Star qualified. UL Compliant. These certifications make EVIQO chargers eligible for federal and state rebate programs.

What's the warranty?

3 years standard, no registration required (it activates automatically at purchase). You can extend to 4 years as a paid add-on at checkout. Support email: support@eviqo.io with your order number.

Can I install it myself?

If you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, yes — the plug-in version just plugs in. If you don't have the outlet (or want hardwired), you'll need a licensed electrician to install the outlet or wire the circuit. EVIQO does not install — but you keep all federal rebates either way.

Does it come with a Tesla adapter?

No — the J1772 chargers include only the J1772 connector. Tesla owners can use any standard J1772-to-Tesla adapter (sold separately on Amazon or Tesla's site). If you drive a Tesla and want zero adapters, choose the NACS version instead.
